• Biography

  As the heir to Duffet Aerospace and Munitions Network (DAMN), his stepfather's armament manufacturing company specializing in artillery and military aircraft, Ryland Duffet has had an easy life of luxury. He is not a public figure for his step-heritage, but for his success as a Powered hero under the alias "Firecracker", inspired by the death of his mother Wintry, former member of The American Protectorate and participant in The Hero Project. As such, he has made many connections and friends over the years. Still, Ryland is still one of the loneliest people out there, as his gallery of friends only exists to benefit him; he has no true friends. Even so, he is far from being actively selfish and manipulative, as behind the brazen attitude is a well-meaning demeanor with a strong moral compass, though he has trouble working on a team.
  
  His unique set of powers allow him to throw bursts of heat energy that explode and crackle into a spectacular display resembling fireworks. The explosions are also extremely loud, making the projectiles as effective as flashbang grenades as they are as searing hot fireballs. He can also generate a thermite reaction, which is hot enough to melt metal.

  Ryland's career as a Millennia City-based Powered hero swerved off the road with his vigilante attack on the Powered serial killer Kassel Galbraith's space station, which landed him in a maximum-security Powered prison, but not before clearing the names of an accused team of heroes called the Waywardens.   A secret message to the Waywardens in a convict's statement led team member Maÿrette Florendaine to form a team and conduct a "heist" on Pelican Bay State Prison for the Powered, where Ryland was being held. Their plan went awry when Ryland used his Powers from inside his cell, which caused a massive explosion that turned the heist into a rescue mission. Either way, it was a success–Ryland joined the Waywardens to lay low from a world that presumed he was dead. (Warden Memoirs: The Escape)
  
  The Waywardens track down the scientist who attempted to kill Ryland and caused the anti-Power sentiment in the United States to swell rapidly with terror attacks on over ten prisons around the country. Meanwhile, Ryland gifts the Waywardens' leader, Jackson Savage, with a suit of armor to amplify her infini powers. They travel to the Siberian tundra to take their target down, putting Ryland's suit to good use. After defeating him, the Waywardens stumble across one of his test subjects, Veronika Gorbachyova, who accidentally kills a member of the team in self-defense. Jackson sides with Veronika, prompting Ryland to harshly disagree with her choices, leaving her alone with Veronika in Russia as he takes the rest of the surviving Waywardens home.
